Scripture of the Day
"All the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate." -- Nehemiah 8:1 NIV
Reflection
There is something profound about the word together. In Nehemiah 8, the people of Israel had just returned from decades of exile in Babylon. Their city had been destroyed, their Temple silenced, their walls broken down. When Nehemiah led the effort to rebuild Jerusalem's walls, the people completed them in just 52 days -- through opposition, political pressure, and internal conflict. But when the walls were finished, something remarkable happened: the people didn't celebrate the construction. They gathered for something deeper.
No government official summoned them. No religious leader sent out a decree. The people simply came -- men, women, and children -- and they asked for one thing: the Word of God. This was revival from the ground up. It was a people who had been through hardship, loss, and spiritual drought gathering as one because they knew that walls alone couldn't save them. They needed God.
Unity is not the absence of difference. It is the presence of a shared hunger. When God's people are genuinely hungry for him, the things that divide us become smaller and the One who unites us becomes larger.

What would it look like for your community of faith to gather with that kind of unified, spontaneous hunger for God?

Prayer
Lord, stir in us a hunger that no circumstance can manufacture and no program can produce. Gather us as one around your Word. Amen.
