"But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away." Matthew 13:25
Reflection
The enemy's strategy is revealed in this simple verse: he works while we sleep. This doesn't necessarily mean literal sleep, but rather those moments when we're not vigilant, when we've let our guard down, when we've become complacent in our spiritual lives. The devil is opportunistic, sowing seeds of discord, doubt, and destruction in the very places where God has planted good.
This reality can be discouraging, but it's also liberating. The presence of weeds in our lives, our churches, and our world doesn't mean God has failed or that our efforts are worthless. It means we're in a spiritual battle, and the enemy is actively opposing the work of God. Recognizing this truth helps us understand that setbacks and challenges are part of the expected landscape, not signs of defeat.
Perseverance requires us to remain vigilant while also trusting God's ultimate plan. We can't prevent every attack from the enemy, nor should we spend our lives in fear of his schemes. Instead, we must maintain spiritual alertness through prayer, fellowship, and staying grounded in God's Word. When we discover areas where the enemy has sown weeds in our lives, we don't despair—we trust God's ability to deal with them.
The key insight is that God sees what the enemy is doing. Nothing catches Him by surprise. The weeds don't threaten His harvest; they simply create an opportunity for His grace and judgment to be displayed in their proper time.
