"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." - 1 John 1:7
Reflection
Growing up in church doesn't automatically mean you understand what it means to follow Jesus. Many of us can relate to the words of Amazing Grace: "I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind, but now I see." We can be surrounded by people who follow Jesus yet still walk in darkness ourselves.
Walking in darkness often means pursuing what we think will bring happiness—the right education, career success, a comfortable home, financial security. These aren't bad things, but when we chase them as our source of satisfaction, we discover we're always wanting more. The darkness of "never enough" overwhelms us.
But when God's light shines, we see beyond what this world offers. We glimpse a bigger picture of what God has for our lives. We discover a source of joy that doesn't run out. This transformation happens through following Jesus, and following means action—denying ourselves, taking up our cross, pursuing what God wants rather than just what we want.
The reward? Fellowship with Jesus Himself. Walking in His light means walking with Him, and in His presence there is fullness of joy. This is the best path not because it's easy, but because it leads us into the purpose for which we were created.
Reflection Question
What are you currently pursuing that you hope will bring satisfaction? How might following Jesus change your pursuit?
Action Step
Identify one area where you're chasing satisfaction apart from God. Commit to seeking His will in that area first this week.
Prayer
Jesus, I want to follow You truly, not just in theory. Show me where I'm walking in darkness and lead me into Your light. Amen.
