Scripture of the Day

"...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." — John 10:10 NIV.

Reflection

Shelly Pennefather, the Villanova basketball star who traded fame and fortune for a life of prayer in a convent, was able to hug her family only once every 25 years. After seeing them and embracing them at the 25 year mark, before turning to go back into the convent, she said something that should stop every one of us in our tracks. She looked at her family — her tearful, bewildered family — and said, "I love this life. I wish you all could just live it for a little while just to see. It's so peaceful. I just feel like I'm not underliving life. I'm living it to the full."

The world would say she was throwing her life away. No career. No freedom. No social media presence. No legacy — or so it seems. But she had discovered what Jesus promised: that those who lose their life for His sake will find it. Fullness of life is not found in accumulation but in surrender.

So many of us are underliving — not because we lack opportunities or resources, but because we lack the courage to follow the summons of the Spirit. We stay safely in the shallows because the deep water frightens us. We settle for comfort rather than risk the adventure of radical obedience.

The summons of the Spirit, the preacher notes, "feels like a broken, winding road, not a straight path." It doesn't always make sense. It will likely disappoint people you love. But once you learn to trust it, it's "like going with the grain of the wood. It's like coming home. It's like breathing."

Reflection Question

Are there any areas of your life where you are "underliving" because you are afraid to follow where the Spirit is leading?

Action Step

Write down one thing you sense God has been calling you to that you have been avoiding. Take one small step toward it today.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I don't want to underlive. I want the fullness You promised — not comfort and safety at any cost, but the overflowing life that comes from following You completely. Give me courage today to say yes to whatever You are asking. Amen.
