Reflection
In the nineteenth century, a young Scottish boy named David Livingstone was sitting in church when a missionary returned from Africa to appeal for workers. The organist's assistant -- a boy whose job was simply to pump air into the organ bellows -- stood up and shouted, "I will go! I will go!" That boy was David Livingstone.
He grew up, became a medical missionary, and labored in Africa for years. One night a tribal chief sent word that he was coming to kill Livingstone and everyone in his compound. Livingstone wrote a prayer of real fear in his diary and asked God for protection. The tribe never came.
Years later, the chief came to faith and told Livingstone why they had turned back: "When we arrived, there were 39 warriors surrounding your compound." There were no physical warriors. But Livingstone's sending church in Scotland had records showing that on that exact night, 39 people had faithfully gathered to pray for him. Every name was written down.
Those 39 people never knew what their prayers were doing. They simply showed up. And God moved in the distance between them and the man they loved.

Are you faithfully praying for those God has placed on your heart, even when you cannot see the outcome?

Lord, make me faithful in prayer even when I cannot see what you are doing. Let my prayers be a wall of protection around those I love. Amen.
