1 Corinthians 10:13 — "God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape."
Reflection
This is one of the most quietly encouraging promises in all of Scripture. Every temptation you have ever faced — or will face — is one that other human beings have faced too.
You are not uniquely broken. You are not facing something unprecedented. And God, who knows exactly what you can bear, has promised that the pressure will never exceed your capacity to withstand it — not because you're strong enough, but because he is faithful enough to always provide a way out.
Notice the promise isn't that temptation won't come. It will. The promise is that it won't be irresistible. There is always a door. There is always an exit. Sometimes it's a phone call you make before giving in. Sometimes it's a room you leave. Sometimes it's a scripture that surfaces at the right moment. Sometimes it's just the grace to pause for thirty seconds before acting.
The Son of God was tempted for you. He suffered for you. He refused to be distracted from his trust in the Father — and he will help you do the same if you ask him.
Every day, anchor your mind in Scripture, pray your identity as God's beloved child, and walk in the power of the Spirit.
Action Step
The next time you feel the pull of temptation, look for the exit before you look at the temptation. Ask out loud: "Where is the way of escape right now?" Then take it.
Prayer
Father, thank you that you are faithful when I am not. Thank you that no temptation is without an exit. Help me find the way out today and have the courage to take it. Amen.
