"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" — Matthew 6:27
Reflection
This is perhaps the most sobering question Jesus asks about worry. Has worrying ever solved a single problem? Has anxiety ever paid a bill? Has fear ever healed a relationship? Has stress ever opened a door?
The answer is always no. Worry is utterly useless. In fact, it does the opposite of what we hope—instead of adding to our lives, it subtracts from them. It steals our joy, damages our health, ruins our relationships, and blocks our spiritual growth.
Yet we cling to worry as if it serves some purpose, as if our anxiety somehow keeps disaster at bay. But Jesus invites us to see worry for what it really is: a thief that robs us of the present moment while solving nothing about the future.
Prayer, on the other hand, changes everything. It doesn't just change circumstances—it changes us. It realigns our perspective, reconnects us with our Provider, and reminds us who we are.
Reflection Question
What problem am I currently trying to solve through worry instead of through prayer?
Action Step
Make a list of three things you've been worrying about. Next to each one, write: "Worry won't fix this. Prayer can change this."
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for clinging to worry as if it served some purpose. Help me to see it for what it is—useless and destructive. Teach me to bring my concerns to You in prayer instead of rehearsing them in anxiety. Amen.
