"Do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matthew 6:31-33

Reflection

Our culture measures blessing by material prosperity—the size of your house, the newness of your car, the balance in your bank account. But here's a startling truth: There are over 100 references to blessing in the New Testament, and not one connects it to material prosperity.

God has spiritual riches He wants to share with you—love, peace, and joy—that matter more than any material possession. The irony is that everything you have is already a gift from God. You don't really own anything; you're just a steward of what He's entrusted to you.

When you put your security in your bank account, your job, or your investments, you set yourself up for anxiety because all of those things can be lost. But when you recognize that God is your true source, you can live without constant worry about the future.

Jesus calls us to seek first His kingdom and righteousness, with the promise that He will provide what we need. God is not calling you to be successful by the world's standards; He's calling you to be faithful. And when you are faithful, God provides. With God as your source, you never have to wonder if your needs will be met.

Reflection Question

What have you been depending on for security more than God—your job, your savings, your own abilities?

Action Step

Make a list of your current needs and worries. Give each one to God in prayer, declaring your dependence on His provision.

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for finding security in temporary things instead of in You. You are my true source of provision. Help me to seek first Your kingdom, trusting that You know what I need and will provide. Free me from the anxiety that comes from depending on riches that can be lost. Amen.
