"If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!" - 1 Corinthians 10:12
Reflection
"I will never deny you!" Peter's confident declaration rings with sincerity and pride. He genuinely believed he was stronger than the other disciples, more committed, more faithful. Yet within hours, he denied Jesus three times. Peter's failure wasn't due to a lack of love for Jesus—it was due to overestimating his own strength and underestimating his vulnerability.
We do the same thing. "That will never happen to me." "I can handle this." "I'm stronger than that." We overestimate our capabilities and underestimate the power of temptation, stress, and weakness. Businesses fail because leaders overestimate their strengths. Relationships crumble because people think they're immune to common pitfalls. Affairs happen because someone believed they could handle a dangerous situation.
Pride blinds us to our need for God's strength. But prayer opens our eyes. When we come before God honestly, acknowledging our weakness rather than boasting in our strength, we position ourselves to receive His help. Prayer is an admission that we cannot do this alone—and that humble admission is the beginning of real strength.
Action Step
Pray honestly about an area where you've been overconfident. Ask God to show you where you're vulnerable and need His strength more than you've realized.
Prayer
God, I confess my pride. Help me see my weaknesses clearly and depend on Your strength, not my own. Keep me humble and teachable. Amen.
