Reflection

Desmond Doss spent twelve hours on a deadly battlefield praying one simple prayer: "Lord, please help me get one more." Seventy-five times that night, God answered. Doss couldn't win the war by himself, but he could save one life at a time through persistent, focused prayer.

This is the power of specific, persistent prayer. Not grand prayers to change the entire world overnight, but humble requests to be used by God in the moment before you. "One more" acknowledges our limitations while trusting in God's unlimited power. It's a prayer that can be prayed again and again without exhaustion because it focuses on the present opportunity, not the overwhelming whole.

When we look at all the darkness in the world—all the broken relationships, all the suffering, all the injustice—we can become paralyzed. But when we pray "Lord, help me reach one more person today," we participate in piercing the darkness one light at a time. This kind of prayer transforms us from overwhelmed observers into active participants in God's redemptive work.

The beauty of the "one more" prayer is that it can be prayed endlessly. After God answers for one person, you can pray it again for the next. This is persistence that leads to multiplication.

Who is the "one more" person God is calling you to pray for and reach out to today?

Action Step

Write down the name of one person who is struggling. Commit to praying "Lord, help me reach this one" every day this week, and take one practical action to show them God's love.

Prayer

Father, I cannot change the whole world, but I can be Your light to one person today. Show me who needs Your love through me. Give me the persistence to keep praying and acting, one person at a time. Help me get one more. Amen.
