Scripture of the Day
"I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, because it is the power of God for salvation." -- Romans 1:16
Reflection
The apostle Paul wrote those words from experience. He had seen the gospel do what nothing else could do -- transform persecutors into proclaimers, break the grip of shame, bring peace to people who had known nothing but striving. He wasn't speaking theoretically. He had watched the message of a crucified and risen Jesus change lives across the Roman world, and he was convinced: there is power in this gospel.
Not power as the world defines it -- not political influence or military force or the leverage of wealth. Something altogether different. A power that works from the inside out, that reaches the places no program or self-improvement effort can touch. The power of God for salvation.
The word salvation in Paul's vocabulary is bigger than we often think. It includes forgiveness of sin, yes -- but also wholeness, restoration, healing, and the renewal of everything that sin and suffering have broken. The gospel is not just a transaction that secures our afterlife. It is a living power that begins transforming us the moment we receive it.
This is what we have been given. Not a religious tradition to maintain, but a power to receive and share.
