"Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus." Hebrews 12:1-2
Reflection
Light has come into the world, but people love darkness because their deeds are evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light and won't come into it for fear of exposure. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so it may be seen plainly that what they've done has been done in God's sight. Today, God invites you to step into the light and walk the path of peace He's prepared.
In Luke's telling of the Christmas story. Zechariah prophesied that when the Messiah comes, He will "guide our feet in the path of peace." Peace has a name, and His name is Jesus. We've explored the obstacles to peace: the undertow of unbelief, the opposition of others, the fears and worries of the world, and the sin within. But Jesus overcomes them all. He strengthens our faith, stands with us against opposition, calms our fears, and forgives our sins.
The writer of Hebrews paints a picture of the Christian life as a race. We're surrounded by witnesses who've run before us, and we're called to strip off every weight—especially sin—that slows us down. How do we run this race? By keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. When we focus on Him, He guides us step by step along the path of peace.
