Reflection

Acts 11:24 gives us one of the most compact, powerful descriptions of a Spirit-formed life in all of Scripture: "He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith."

Notice the sequence. He was good because he was full of the Spirit. The goodness was not self-manufactured. It was not the result of a moral improvement program or a list of disciplines religiously observed. It was the fruit of a deeply formed interior life — a heart genuinely surrendered to God.

So many Christians — and this is an honest confession — focus their energy on polishing the outside while the interior goes largely unattended. The attendance record looks good. The familiar Christian words come naturally. The visible life of faith is well maintained. But the soul? The place where God actually dwells and longs to form us? Largely untouched.

Jesus used the image of whitewashed tombs — clean and presentable on the outside, empty on the inside. He wasn't being harsh for the sake of it. He was describing a spiritual tragedy: the appearance of faith without its substance.

Real encouragement flows from a real interior. You cannot consistently give away what you do not actually possess. The most encouraging people in the world are not performing encouragement — they are overflowing with it because the Spirit has made them full.

Honestly, how is your interior life? Are you investing as much in your soul as you are in the visible, external expressions of your faith?

Action Step

Set aside fifteen uninterrupted minutes today — no phone, no noise — simply to sit in God's presence. Don't ask for anything. Just be with Him. Let that be the beginning of tending your interior life.

Prayer

Lord, I confess that I often tend the outside while neglecting the inside. Forgive me. Come into the interior of my life — the hidden places, the unattended corners — and make Your home there. Fill me with Your Spirit. Grow something real in me that can overflow into the people around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
