The Hidden Life

Scripture of the Day

"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." — Matthew 6:6 NIV.

Reflection

Andrew Murray wrote that "the leading of the Spirit does not begin in the region of thought or feeling. The Holy Spirit makes His home deeper down in the life itself. In this hidden laboratory of the inner life is the power that molds the will and fashions the character in our Spirit. There He breathes and moves and guides."
We live in a culture obsessed with the visible — what can be seen, measured, posted, and praised. But the Christian life is fundamentally a hidden life. The most important things happening in you right now are invisible to everyone around you. The Spirit is at work in the depths, shaping your character, your desires, your will.

This is why the inner life demands attention and cultivation. You cannot outsource your spiritual formation to a Sunday service or a podcast. The hidden life must be tended daily — in prayer, in Scripture, in silence, in surrender. The outer life — your relationships, your work, your witness — will only be as rich as your inner life allows.

Reflection Question

What does your hidden life with God actually look like on a typical day? Is it being tended or neglected?
Action Step
Identify one specific time in your daily routine where you can consistently cultivate your hidden life with God — and protect it this week.

Prayer

Father, work in the hidden places of my heart. Where my inner life is shallow, deepen it. Where it is distracted, focus it. Where it is dry, refresh it. Let the invisible work of Your Spirit produce visible fruit in everything I do today. Amen.
