Reflection
Hurricane Katrina taught us a powerful lesson about what truly matters. When everything is stripped away—possessions, homes, comfort—what remains? Many survivors thanked God they were still alive, recognizing that their losses, though devastating, weren't everything. We live in a world that constantly whispers that happiness comes from accumulation, that security is found in our bank accounts, and that success is measured by what we own.
But Jesus cuts through this deception with clarity: life isn't about possessions. While we need certain things to live—shelter, clothing, tools—these can vanish in a moment. The only thing that cannot be taken from you is your relationship with Jesus Christ. He promises never to let go of you. When everything else crumbles, His character remains unchanged, and His love for you stands firm.
The key to healthy stewardship begins here: building your life on the unshakeable foundation of Christ. Only when you're secure in Him can you hold possessions with open hands, using them for God's purposes without becoming enslaved to them. Your true treasure isn't what you own but who owns you.

What possessions or comforts have I built my security upon instead of Christ?
Action Step
Make a list of your most valued possessions. Pray over each one, releasing it to God's ownership and committing to hold it loosely.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are my firm foundation. Forgive me for the times I've sought security in temporary things rather than in Your eternal presence. Help me remember that while everything else may be taken away, You will never leave me. Teach me to build my life on You alone, so that I can steward all You've given me with freedom and faithfulness. In Your name, Amen.
