The Dinner in Jesus’ Honor

Scripture of the Day

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Reflection

The dinner in Bethany was not a spontaneous gathering. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus planned it, prepared it, and hosted it as a deliberate act of thanksgiving. Lazarus had been dead. Now he was alive. There was something specific to celebrate, and they chose to celebrate it by honoring the one who had made it possible.

This is a pattern worth recovering in our own lives. We live in a culture of ambient gratitude -- vague thankfulness that never quite lands anywhere. We are grateful "in general" for "good things" without ever pausing to name the specific miracle sitting across the table from us. But the dinner at Bethany named it. Lazarus was there. His presence was the thanksgiving.

What has God raised back to life in your story? A marriage that was dying? A hope that had been buried? A sense of purpose that had been entombed by failure or grief? Whatever it is, it deserves a dinner -- a deliberate, named, intentional act of celebration and thanksgiving directed at the One who made it possible.

Gratitude becomes fragrant when it becomes specific. General appreciation barely rises. Named, particular, story-rooted thanksgiving fills the whole house.

Question for Personal Reflection

What specific thing has God restored, rescued, or resurrected in your life that deserves deliberate, named thanksgiving today?

Action Step

Write a two-paragraph "dinner in Jesus' honor" -- a specific description of what God has done for you and a direct expression of thanks for it.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You have done specific things in my life that I don't acknowledge nearly enough. Today I name them. Thank You for what You raised when I thought it was too far gone. Help me live in the daily awareness of what You have done, and let that awareness shape everything I offer You. Amen.
