Scripture of the Day

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity." — Proverbs 17:17 NIV

Reflection

When Saul arrived in Jerusalem after his Damascus Road conversion, the doors were closed. The fear was understandable — this man had stood watching while Stephen was stoned. He had been the church's most dangerous enemy. They were all afraid of him, Acts tells us plainly.

All except Barnabas.

Barnabas took Saul, brought him to the apostles, and vouched for him. He put his own reputation on the line. He said, in essence: I believe this man has genuinely met Jesus. I will stake my credibility on it. And because of that single act of courageous encouragement, the man who would write half the New Testament was welcomed into the community of faith.

That is the staggering power of vouching for someone.

There are people in your life right now who need someone to vouch for them. People who made mistakes that followed them. People carrying reputations that no longer fit who they are becoming. People standing outside the circle of trust and acceptance, wondering if anyone believes they have changed.

Being someone's Barnabas sometimes costs you something. It requires putting your name behind someone else's future. It requires the courage to say, "I see what others may not see yet. And I am willing to stand here and say so."

That is not naivety. That is grace in action.

Question for Personal Reflection

Is there someone in your life who needs you to vouch for them — to stand in the gap and say, "I believe in this person"? What is holding you back?

Action Step

Think of someone who has been unfairly written off or whose past still defines how others see them. Find one specific, tangible way to publicly affirm your belief in who they are becoming.

Prayer

Lord, give me the courage of Barnabas — to stand up for the people that others have sat down on. Help me see people the way You see them: not by their worst moment, but by Your grace working in them. Make me someone willing to stake something on another person's future. In Jesus' name, Amen.
