Scripture of the Day

"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." -- Philippians 1:6 (NIV)

Reflection

Nehemiah 8 does not end with the gathering. It ends with sending: go and eat, celebrate, share with others, rejoice. The people who came together as one are now dispersed into the city, carrying the joy with them. What began as a gathering became a sending. The spiritual center, renewed, now radiates outward into every part of the community.

This is the shape of all genuine revival. It begins with a hunger that draws people together. It deepens through honest grief and the reordering that the word of God produces. It breaks open into joy that is stronger than any suffering. And then it sends -- back into the neighborhoods, into the workplaces, into the relationships, into the world -- people who have been genuinely changed and now carry the change with them.

The God who gathered the people in Nehemiah's day is still gathering people today. He is still stirring the hunger that draws communities together around his word. He is still honoring the grief that precedes genuine joy. He is still sending people he has renewed into places that need renewal.

You are part of a story that is not finished. Whatever God has done in you and among you so far is not the end -- it is the foundation. He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion. The gathering was not the destination. The sending is not the destination. The destination is the day when every hunger is finally, fully satisfied, and the people of God come together as one in the presence of the One who gathered them from the beginning.

Write down the one commitment you are making as a result of these fourteen days. Make it specific, make it measurable, and share it with one trusted person who will ask you about it in thirty days.

Prayer

Lord, thank you that you are not finished. Thank you that what you have begun in me -- however halting, however incomplete -- you will carry to completion. Stir in me everything that still needs stirring. Heal in me everything that still needs healing. Send me where you need me. And until the day when all hunger is finally satisfied and all grief is finally redeemed, let the joy of the Lord be my strength. Amen.
