Reflection

Joseph watched and listened to Potiphar to understand his expectations. He stayed close to learn how to use resources wisely. Similarly, to be faithful stewards, we must stay close to Jesus to know what He wants us to do with what we've got. He's the Owner and Master. Without staying close to Him, we'll probably spend almost everything on ourselves.

Jesus made it clear: you can only serve one master. This isn't unwise—it's impossible to serve two. You must choose. Will it be God or money? Will you live for His purposes or your own comfort? Joseph served God, and there was a beautiful singleness of focus in his life. Jesus lived the same way, doing nothing on His own but only what the Father was doing.

This unity of purpose comes through practice and intentional closeness. Each day, you can pray: "God, I want to live more closely to You today than yesterday. I want to hear Your voice and see how You're at work." With every decision, ask: "Is this how You want me to spend this resource? What do You want me to do with this windfall?" You're constantly talking to Him, constantly seeking His wisdom.

When He is truly in your life, you discover that you have everything you need. If you delight in the Lord, your stewardship will fall into place naturally.

Identify one financial decision you're facing this week. Spend time in prayer before deciding, asking God specifically what He wants you to do.

Prayer

Jesus, I choose You as my Master today. Forgive me for the times I've served money, comfort, or my own desires instead of You. Draw me close to Your heart. Help me hear Your voice clearly as I make decisions about resources. Give me a singleness of purpose like Joseph had. I want to do nothing on my own, but only what You're doing. Be my delight, Lord, and let everything else fall into its proper place. Amen.
