Scripture of the Day
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” — Matthew 5:6
Reflection
When the people of Israel gathered to hear the Word of God in Nehemiah 8, they stood from daybreak until noon -- six hours of attentive, reverent listening. This wasn't a passive crowd enduring a long service. These were people who had been spiritually starved for generations. The Law of God had been largely lost to popular memory during their years of exile in Babylon. Now, hearing it again, they couldn't get enough.
Hunger is something we all understand. Your body knows how to want. But sometimes, spiritually, we're not sure what we actually need. We stand at the proverbial refrigerator -- scrolling, consuming, filling our hours -- without being satisfied. We hunger for recognition, for entertainment, for belonging. Nothing is necessarily wrong with those things, but they tend to leave us more famished than before.
Jesus said that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. The word righteousness here carries the sense of right relationship -- with God and with others. That is the hunger that, when fed, actually satisfies.
The way to develop a hunger for God's Word is simply to invest more time in it. Not to check off chapters, but to seek God himself through the pages.

Prayer
Lord, give me a holy hunger -- a dissatisfaction with anything less than you. Fill me with the only thing that truly satisfies. Amen.
