"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night." (Psalm 1:1-2, NIV)
Reflection
Like the psalmist, the prophet Ezra's devotion to Scripture began with a decision of the heart. He "set his heart" to study God's Word—a phrase that implies preparation, devotion, and intentionality. This wasn't about fulfilling religious obligations or maintaining appearances. Ezra's heart was genuinely set on knowing God through His Word.
In our busy lives, we can easily claim to value the Bible while giving it minimal attention. We may read it occasionally, quote it when convenient, but never really let it shape our daily decisions and transform our character. Statistics show that half of Americans read the Bible less than twice a year. Even among Christians, consistent engagement with Scripture is rare.
But here's what we can be thankful for: God's Word is available to us every day, ready to nourish our souls like daily bread. We have the freedom and ability to open its pages and encounter the living God. When we set our hearts on Scripture with genuine devotion, we're preparing ourselves for God's hand to move powerfully in our lives.
Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Give thanks today that you have access to the treasure of God's Word, and that setting your heart on it positions you for blessing.

Action Step
Commit to a specific time and place where you'll read God's Word each day this week, treating it as an appointment you cannot miss.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I've treated Your Word casually or neglected it altogether. Thank You for the gift of Scripture and the opportunity to know You through it. Set my heart on Your truth. Make me hungry for Your Word like I'm hungry for daily food. May my delight be in Your law, and may I meditate on it continually. Amen.
