"For them I sanctify myself, so that they too may be truly sanctified." John 17:19
Reflection
Jesus didn't just pray for our sanctification—He demonstrated it. "For them I sanctify myself," He said, meaning "I'm willing to be set apart for their sake." That very night when he spoke these words, He was betrayed, beaten, and crucified. On the cross, before there was any church or denomination, He died for every person who ever was or would be.
This was the greatest act of being set apart the world has ever known.
Jesus prayed, but then He did what needed to be done.
When the need for forgiveness was vast and captivity by the enemy was real, Jesus said, "I'll go. I'll do it." His prayer wasn't separated from His action—it fueled it.
Being sanctified means being set apart for God's holy purpose. It means being willing to say, "God, I'll go. I'll do whatever, wherever You need me." It might mean preaching the gospel, serving in obscurity, working alongside someone different from you, becoming a missionary, or advocating for the vulnerable. Sanctification isn't about becoming too holy for this world—it's about being set apart for kingdom work in this world.
Have you ever whispered that prayer? "God, I'm willing to be set apart for You"?
