Scripture of the Day
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1, NIV)
Reflection
Trouble never asks permission. It arrives as a diagnosis, a strained relationship, a headline that steals your sleep, or a season when nothing seems to hold. Psalm 46 doesn't pretend otherwise. It declares that God is our refuge, a shelter and safe place, and our strength, the power to keep going. More than forty times the Psalms call God a refuge. That repetition tells us we can't live in this world without threats, so the real question is where we will run when they come.
I once got lost in an enormous foreign city, following a map that cared about the shortest route but not the safest one. I ended up somewhere I didn't belong, and then a wall blocked the road. Panic rose. So I stopped and prayed four words: "God, I need help." It wasn't eloquent, but it was running to the refuge.
God doesn't force us to come to him. He waits for us to turn. Persistence in prayer begins with a simple decision: every time trouble appears, we will run toward God first rather than last. Not once, but again and again, as often as the threats come. Let today's trouble become today's prayer.
Reflection Question
When trouble hits, where do you run first, and what would it look like to make prayer that first instinct?
Action Step
Write down the one worry pressing hardest on you today. Pray a short, honest prayer about it right now, then again at midday and at bedtime.
Prayer
Lord, you are my refuge and my strength. When trouble comes, help me run to you first. I don't have polished words, only need. Meet me here, today, and teach me to keep coming back. Amen.
