"Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?" -- Psalm 85:6 NIV
Reflection
One of the most striking details in Nehemiah 8 is what did not happen. No king issued a command. No priest sent an announcement. No religious program was organized. The people simply gathered -- spontaneously, collectively, and with a shared hunger -- and asked for the Word of God.
This was revival from the people, not a program from above.
We often think of spiritual renewal as something that happens to a congregation -- something a leader engineers or a season produces. But the movement of God most often begins with ordinary people who have simply grown hungry enough to stop waiting for someone else to lead them to the water.
True unity in prayer is not manufactured by a committee. It is cultivated by people who have each, individually, come to the end of what they can do on their own. When enough people arrive at that same place at the same time, something beautiful happens. The crowd becomes a congregation. The gathering becomes holy ground.
The question is not whether your church needs renewal. Every church, in every generation, does. The question is whether you will be among those who show up and ask for it.

Are you waiting for someone to lead you into deeper spiritual life, or are you taking personal responsibility for your own hunger for God?

Pray today specifically for spiritual renewal in your church -- not for others, but beginning with yourself.

Lord, let revival begin in me. Make me one of the people who show up, who hunger, and who ask. Revive us again. Amen.
