"This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life." — Romans 8:15 (The Message).
Reflection
There is a version of Christianity that is small, timid, and fearful — more concerned with avoiding trouble than living boldly. It is a life spent tending graves: mourning what was lost, guarding what little remains, afraid to step into the open. But the resurrection of Jesus Christ declares that this is not the life we were made for.
The women who encountered the risen Christ didn't walk slowly back from the tomb. They ran. They were afraid, yes — but they were also filled with joy, and those two things coexisted as they moved with urgency and purpose. The resurrection does not eliminate the feeling of fear, but it transforms fear into forward motion. It takes women who came to mourn and sends them to proclaim.
You have received resurrection life. That means the same power that rolled away the stone, the same power that defeated death itself, lives in you through the Holy Spirit. You are not a slave to fear anymore. You are not defined by your anxiety. You are not limited to tending the graves of your past mistakes, your old wounds, your broken dreams.
Prayer is how we access that resurrection power daily. It is how we remind ourselves — and declare to the enemy — that we are not grave-tenders. We are resurrection people, commissioned to go, to tell, and to live with joyful, fearless urgency.
