Scripture of the Day
"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him." — John 6:56 NLT
Reflection
The word "remains" in this verse is the same Greek word as "abide." Jesus is not simply inviting you to a religious ritual — He is inviting you into a living, breathing, mutual indwelling. He remains in you, and you remain in Him. This is the stunning reality of the Christian life.
When Shelly Pennefather, the Villanova basketball star, read this scripture aloud at a retreat, she was overwhelmed. She later said that as she read, it hit her that God was right there — right in front of her. When she closed the Bible and said a silent prayer, she was stunned. From that day on, she knew she was no longer alone.
That is what happens when Scripture comes alive in you. The Word is not merely ink on a page — it is a vehicle for the living Christ to meet you, to speak to you, to draw you deeper into Himself. To feed on His Word is to feed on Him. To abide in His Word is to abide in Him.
You don't need a monastery to experience this. You need an open Bible and a willing heart. Come hungry. Come thirsty. He has promised that those who come to Him will never go away empty.
Reflection Question
When did you last experience Scripture the way Pennefather did — as a living encounter with the presence of God?
Action Step
Choose one verse today. Read it slowly, three times. Sit with it. Ask God to speak to you through it personally.
Prayer
Living God, open my eyes to see You in Your Word. Let Scripture be more than information — let it be transformation. As I read today, feed my hungry soul. Remind me that You are here, closer than my next breath, and that I am never alone in You. Amen.
