Reflection
In Luke's gospel, Zechariah was a righteous priest who lived an exemplary life, yet when the angel Gabriel appeared with miraculous news, he didn't believe it. His doubt didn't happen overnight—it developed slowly through years of disappointment and unanswered prayers. Unbelief works like an undertow, pulling you under little by little until you doubt that God can do miracles in your life.
Everyone who believes battles unbelief at some point. We see God's goodness, yet life brings pain and heartbreak. Maybe there's a promise on your life that seems unfulfilled, or perhaps life was going well until divorce or sickness disrupted everything. Like Zechariah, we can go through the motions while slowly being dragged into doubt about whether we'll ever really experience God's power.
But here's the good news: Jesus is a search-and-rescue Savior. When a father came asking Jesus to heal his son, he honestly admitted, "I believe; help my unbelief!" That's a prayer Jesus honors. He doesn't condemn us for our doubts—He helps us through them. This Christmas, God wants to pull you back from the undertow and restore your faith in His miraculous power.

Where in your life are you doubting God's power to work, and what disappointments have contributed to this unbelief?

Pray the honest prayer: "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" and ask Jesus to show you one way He's been faithful in your past.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I confess that doubt has crept into my heart. Some prayers seem unanswered, and I've wondered if You can really change my circumstances. Help my unbelief. Strengthen my faith. Pull me back from the undertow and help me trust in Your miraculous power again. Amen.
