Scripture of the Day

"The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." — John 3:8 NIV

Reflection

The Holy Spirit is infinitely creative. He is not limited by our preferences, our traditions, or the categories we've built around what God is allowed to do. Jesus himself told Nicodemus that the Spirit is like wind — you cannot control it, predict it, or contain it. It moves where it will.

Barnabas understood this. He could recognize the work of God in places that others had already dismissed. He was open to the new — new people, new methods, new expressions of the ancient gospel — because he was more committed to following the Spirit than to protecting his comfort zone.

Being open to the new is not the same as abandoning what is true. It is not theological recklessness. It is spiritual attentiveness — the humble acknowledgment that God is bigger than our understanding of Him, and that He reserves the right to surprise us.

The encouragers in any community are almost always the ones who are open. Open to an idea that might work. Open to a person who might surprise everyone. Open to God doing something they didn't plan, in a way they didn't expect, through someone they didn't choose.

Closed hands cannot receive. Closed minds cannot recognize. Closed hearts cannot celebrate. Openness is the posture of the Spirit-filled life — and it is deeply, powerfully encouraging to everyone around you.

Question for Personal Reflection

Where have you become closed — to a new idea, a different approach, an unexpected person God might be using? What would it mean to open that space back up?

Action Step

Spend five minutes today asking the Holy Spirit specifically: "Where are You moving that I have been too closed to see?" Write down whatever comes to mind and hold it prayerfully.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, I confess I sometimes put You in a box. I expect You to move the way You always have, through the people I already know, within the structures I'm comfortable with. Forgive me. Open my eyes and my heart. Show me where You are working that I have been too closed to recognize. In Jesus' name, Amen.
