"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." — 2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

Reflection

Barnabas sold a field. Land — in the ancient world — was not just property. It was security. It was identity. It was your family's future. And Barnabas converted it to cash and laid it at the apostles' feet without being asked, without fanfare, without expecting anything in return.

This was not an act of irresponsibility. It was an act of freedom. Barnabas had been so transformed by the grace of God that things simply didn't have the same grip on him anymore. He held his possessions with an open hand because he understood that everything he had was already God's.

The way we hold material things reveals a great deal about our interior life. Jesus said where your treasure is, your heart will be also. He wasn't making a casual observation — He was describing a diagnostic tool. Follow the money, follow the priorities, and you'll find the heart.

Generosity is one of the most powerful forms of encouragement in existence. When you give freely — your money, your time, your energy, your attention — you are communicating something profound to the person receiving it: You are worth investing in. You matter to me.

Open hands begin with an open heart transformed by grace.

Is there an area of your life — money, time, energy, attention — where you are holding too tightly? What would it look like to hold that thing with an open hand before God?

Do one anonymous act of generosity today. Give something — money, time, a meal, a gift — without anyone knowing it was you, and notice how it affects your heart.

Prayer

Lord, everything I have came from You and belongs to You. Loosen my grip on the things I hold too tightly. Make me a cheerful, open-handed giver — not out of obligation, but out of the overflow of a heart that has been changed by Your grace. Let my generosity be a witness today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
