Life’s Greatest Treasure

"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." - Galatians 5:6

Reflection

In our achievement-obsessed world, we chase promotions, accumulate possessions, and build impressive resumes. We measure success by bank accounts and social media followers. Yet the greatest gift God has given us isn't found in our accomplishments—it's found in our relationships.

Joseph had everything the world considers valuable: fame, wealth, power, and position. As second-in-command of Egypt, he possessed influence beyond measure. But when we examine his story's end, we see that his future was tied not to his achievements but to his closest relationships with his father and brothers. God had blessed him with success precisely so he could preserve and nurture these precious bonds.

What sustained Joseph through his trials and enabled him to maintain these precious relationships? Prayer and communion with God. Through years of seeking the Lord, Joseph developed the spiritual maturity to prioritize relationships over achievements. His prayer life kept his heart aligned with God's purposes rather than worldly pursuits.

When we stand before God, He won't evaluate our lives based on our grades, career achievements, or net worth. Instead, He'll look at how we loved—how we loved Him with our whole heart and loved our neighbors as ourselves. The eloquence of an orator, the knowledge of a genius, or a million followers mean nothing without love.

Your body will give out, your career will end, but the love in your relationships with God and others—that's what lasts eternally. These relationships aren't just additions to our lives; they are life's greatest treasure, worthy of our best time, energy, and investment. Prayer is the foundation that keeps these priorities in proper perspective.

Prayer

Lord, help me recognize that relationships are life's greatest treasure. Show me where I've been investing my best energy in temporary things while neglecting the people You've placed in my life. Teach me to prioritize love over achievements and to steward my relationships with the same care I give to my other pursuits. Amen.

See here to share just this Prayer for Life's Greatest Treasure.
