Scripture of the Day
"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." -- Romans 5:1
Reflection
The word justified carries a legal weight. To be justified before God means to be declared righteous -- not because of what we have done, but because of what Christ has done on our behalf. He lived the sinless life we were meant to live. He died the death our rebellion deserved. And his righteousness is credited to us the moment we receive him by faith.
There is a helpful way to hear the word: just-as-if. Just as if we had never sinned. Just as if our record were spotless. Not because God pretends the sin wasn't there, but because the penalty has been fully paid.
This is not what any of us deserve. And that is precisely the point. Grace, by definition, is not deserved. It is given. The gospel is not the announcement that God grades on a curve -- it is the announcement that God, in Christ, has paid the debt himself.
Once this truth settles in, everything changes. We stop striving to earn what has already been freely given. We stop living in fear of a verdict that has already been declared. We are justified. Declared righteous. Welcome in God's presence -- not someday, but now.
Question for Personal Reflection
Are you living as someone who has been justified, or are you still striving to earn a standing you have already been given?
Action Step
Read Romans 5:1 aloud three times today, slowly, and let each word land.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for a righteousness I could never earn. Help me live today from the freedom of being fully justified by your grace. Amen.
