Justice for the Broken

"Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute."Psalm 82:3 (ESV)

Reflection

Jesus did not come merely to offer personal peace and individual salvation. He came to proclaim justice to the nations — to establish a Kingdom that actively liberates the oppressed, heals the broken, brings hope to the marginalized, and proclaims good news to the poor.

The gospel is not only what saves us from sin — it is what sends us toward suffering people. This is why Matthew connects Jesus to Isaiah 42. The Suffering Servant was not only a sacrifice; He was an activist for the Kingdom of God.

When we behold Jesus, we are not merely meant to be comforted — we are meant to be commissioned. Your own experience of suffering can become the very thing that opens your eyes to the suffering of others. The person who has walked through grief recognizes it in others. The person who has known poverty understands what others need.

Suffering, when surrendered to God, produces empathy. And empathy, when submitted to Christ, produces action. Jesus moved toward the vulnerable. If we are truly following Him, we will move in the same direction.

Reflection Question

How has your own suffering increased your compassion for others, and who in your life needs you to move toward them right now?

Action Step

Identify one person in your community who is barely holding on. Reach out to them today — not to fix anything, but simply to be present.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You moved toward every broken person You encountered. Make me more like You. Let my own suffering become a doorway into empathy. Show me who needs me to take a step toward them today. Amen.
