Reflection

Reggie White was one of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history—a fierce competitor nicknamed "the Minister of Defense." He was a relentless force on the field, but off the field, he was something entirely different: a gentle, joyful, deeply spiritual man who found his identity not in football but in God's presence. Even during his playing career, teammates would gather around him for Bible studies and prayer meetings.

Reggie once said, "I believe the joy that comes from being with God is better than any victory I've had on the field." Think about that—a Hall of Fame athlete who experienced countless victories, championships, and accolades declaring that nothing compared to the joy of being with God. Even in his final years as his health declined, friends said that his joy never faded because he had learned how to live every moment—in fame, in pain, in retirement—in God's presence.

The apostle Paul wrote "Rejoice in the Lord always" from a prison cell. Not "rejoice when things go well" or "rejoice if you feel like it," but always. How? By finding joy not in victories or favorable circumstances but in relationship with the Lord Himself. You too can have fullness of joy—by cherishing God's family, seeking God's presence, and believing God's promises. The joy that comes from being with God is better than any earthly victory.

Prayer

Lord, help me find my joy in You rather than in achievements, circumstances, or victories. Like Reggie White, I want to discover that being with You is better than any earthly success. Teach me to rejoice in You always, no matter what I'm facing. Amen.
