"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are." — 1 John 3:1 (ESV)
Reflection
Fred Rogers (from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood) once sat with a troubled teenager who had been told his whole life that he was worthless. Rogers didn't perform. He didn't rush. He simply sat down, looked the boy in the eyes, and after a long, quiet moment said: "I like you just the way you are." The boy wept. That gentleness was not weakness. It was the most powerful thing in the room.
That is Jesus. Not the version that performs for crowds or demands theological precision before offering love. The Jesus who sits down with the person everyone else has given up on. The Jesus who doesn't break bruised reeds. The Jesus who looks at the exhausted, the ashamed, the doubting, the grieving — and does not turn away.
If you have spent this season of suffering feeling like you are too broken to be loved, too inconsistent to be chosen, too far gone to be repaired — this is the word for you today: He likes you just the way you are. Not where you'll be someday. Not the cleaned-up version. You. As you are. Right now.
That is where the love of God begins, and it never ends.
Reflection Question
What would change about how you pray, how you live, and how you suffer if you truly believed God delights in you exactly as you are?
Action Step
Tell someone today — in whatever way feels right — "I like you just the way you are." Be the presence of Jesus to someone who needs to hear it.
Prayer
Father, I have spent so long believing I need to earn Your love. Today I receive what Jesus made possible — I am Your child, delighted in, chosen, and held. Let that truth go so deep that suffering cannot shake it. Thank You for the love that never quits. Amen.
