Reflection

Jesus sent His disciples out two by two. Not because one person couldn't do anything — but because the mission was too important to travel alone. There is something about genuine partnership that multiplies what God can do through us.

Barnabas understood this intuitively. He invested in Saul. He went back for John Mark when Paul had given up on him. He worked alongside others, traveled with others, gave credit to others. His whole ministry was characterized by a willingness to share the work, share the risk, and share the glory.

Christianity is fueled by holy friendship. Not the surface-level, social-media version of friendship, but the real thing — the kind where someone knows your weaknesses and believes in you anyway. The kind where you can be honest without fear of rejection. The kind that sharpens you, challenges you, holds you accountable, and refuses to let you stay small.

This kind of friendship is increasingly rare in our culture. We are more connected than any generation in history and more genuinely lonely. We have hundreds of followers and almost nobody who truly knows us.

The encouragement that changes a life comes from proximity. It comes from someone who has stayed close enough and long enough to know what you are really carrying — and chooses to walk with you through it anyway.

Do you have at least one genuinely close, honest, mutually encouraging friendship in your life right now? If not, what is one step you could take toward building that?

Action Step

Reach out today to someone you want to go deeper with. Invite them to coffee, a walk, or a regular time together. Be specific and be intentional — holy friendship rarely just happens on its own.

Prayer

Lord, You designed us for community. You made us to need each other. Forgive me for the ways I have settled for shallow connection or isolated myself out of fear or pride. Lead me to the holy friendships You have for me — and make me the kind of friend who sharpens, encourages, and stays. In Jesus' name, Amen.
