"We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet he did not sin." - Hebrews 4:15
Reflection
One of the most comforting truths in all of Scripture is this: Jesus was tired. He was hungry. He wept at the tomb of his friend Lazarus. He felt frustration when the disciples fell asleep in the garden. He may have felt loneliness in ways we can scarcely imagine.
Over 80 times in the Gospels, Jesus calls himself the Son of Man — a deliberate declaration of full humanity. He was not playing at being human. He was not wearing it like a costume. He entered it completely.
This means that when you bring your exhaustion to Jesus, he is not puzzled by it. When you bring your grief, he has felt it. When anxiety keeps you up at night, he has known something of that weight. He is not a distant observer of human suffering — he is a fellow traveler who has walked every road you are on. You are never bringing something to Jesus that he cannot understand.
Reflection Question
What emotion or struggle have you hesitated to bring to Jesus, perhaps feeling he wouldn't understand? How does his full humanity change that?
Action Step
Write down one thing you've been carrying alone. Bring it honestly to Jesus in prayer today, trusting that he truly understands.
Prayer
Jesus, Son of Man, I am so grateful that you know what it is to be human — to be tired, to grieve, to feel the weight of this world. I bring you what I've been carrying today. Thank you for understanding me completely. Amen.
