"He will not grow faint or be discouraged till He has established justice in the earth." — Isaiah 42:4 (ESV)
Reflection
There are Christians who live in secret terror that God is about to give up on them. They feel so broken, so inconsistent, so far from who they want to be, that they are constantly bracing for the moment God finally walks away. But that fear is based on a false picture of Jesus.
The Jesus of Isaiah 42 and Matthew 12 does not quit. He does not grow faint. He does not get discouraged and reassign His affections. He is utterly, relentlessly committed to bringing justice — and bringing you — to completion. He was committed enough to go all the way to the cross. He did not stop at Gethsemane. He did not stop at the flogging. He did not stop at the nails. He went all the way through death and out the other side.
That same resolve is turned toward you. He is not going to abandon the work He began in you. He is not running out of patience with your struggle. He is not counting your failures as reasons to walk away. He sees the reed He is repairing. He sees the wick He is nursing back to flame. And He keeps going.
Reflection Question
Do you carry a fear that God will eventually give up on you? Where does that fear come from, and what does today's Scripture say against it?
Action Step
Find one promise in Scripture about God's faithfulness and write it somewhere you will encounter it repeatedly this week.
Prayer
Jesus, I confess that I sometimes fear You will give up on me. Forgive that unbelief. Your Word says You will not quit until Your justice and Your purposes are complete. I trust that today. Don't let me go. Amen.
