Reflection
Jesus was forty days into a fast. He was physically depleted, isolated, and starving. And when the devil came to him, his weapon was a sentence from Deuteronomy. Not a display of divine power. Not a command that drew on his authority as the Son of God. A quote from Scripture.
This is deeply instructive. Jesus overcame temptation the same way he invites us to — through the living Word of God. Now, the devil also quotes Scripture in this story. He knows it well, and he will use it to justify sin if he can.
This means we need more than just knowledge of Bible verses. We need the Spirit of God to illuminate Scripture and help us use it rightly.
But the call to hide God's word in our hearts remains urgent and practical. The person who has memorized nothing has no ammunition when temptation arrives at 11pm or in the middle of a conversation that's going sideways.
Scripture doesn't just inform our theology — it steadies our identity in moments of pressure. It reminds us of what's true when our feelings are telling us a different story entirely.

Choose one scripture this week to memorize — specifically one that speaks to an area of temptation you face. Write it on a card, put it somewhere visible, and read it aloud daily.
Prayer
Lord, fill me with your Word so that when temptation comes, I have truth ready. Let your voice be louder than the enemy's whispers. Amen.
