Scripture of the Day
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5
Reflection
It is easy, in a world full of bad news, to lose sight of what God is doing. Every day brings fresh reports of suffering, injustice, and brokenness -- and if that is all we see, despair is understandable. But the people of God are called to look more carefully.
Consider what has changed in the world in recent decades. Extreme poverty has been cut dramatically. The number of children dying from hunger and preventable disease has been more than halved. Global water organizations are reaching a new person with clean water every ten seconds. AIDS-related deaths have fallen by more than half since their peak. In India, communities are standing against centuries-old practices that have harmed girls and women. A school community in Texas wrapped its arms around a child with a difficult diagnosis who had always wanted a parade -- and gave him one.
These are not coincidences. They are evidence that the God who declared himself the re-maker of the world has not stopped working. His truth is marching on -- in hospitals, in villages, in elementary school hallways, in the hearts of people who have been changed by the gospel and are carrying that change into the world.
We of all people should be people of hope. We know how the story ends.
