"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights." -- James 1:17
Reflection
When Mary poured out her perfume, Judas immediately calculated its cash value. Three hundred denarii -- nearly a year's wages -- wasted on a moment. His logic was economic and, on the surface, even charitable: the money could have fed the poor.
But Jesus defended her. What Judas called waste, Jesus called worship. What Judas saw as misallocation, Jesus saw as a gift that would be spoken of for generations. The difference was not in the amount but in the heart and the direction -- Mary's gift was given upward, and gifts given upward always come back outward in ways we cannot calculate.
Every gift we give with a genuine heart -- to the church, to the hungry, to the lonely neighbor, to the ministry that carries the gospel somewhere we cannot go -- is received by God as a fragrant offering. He sees the widow's coins. He receives the socks purchased for a homeless person on a cold morning. He smells the blanket delivered with love. No sincere gift is invisible to Him or trivial to Him.
The question is not whether your gift is large enough to matter. The question is whether it is genuine enough to rise.

Is there a gift -- of money, resources, or practical generosity -- that you have been meaning to give but have delayed?
Action Step
Give something today that you have been postponing. Let it be an act of worship, not just charity.
Prayer
Father of lights, every good thing I have came from You. Today I return a portion of it, not as payment but as praise. Receive my gift as a fragrant offering and use it in ways far beyond what I can imagine. Remind me that You see every genuine act of generosity, however small. Amen.
