"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day." - John 6:54 (NIV)
Reflection
When you eat physical bread, you know it. It fills you, nourishes you, and becomes part of you at a cellular level. Jesus uses this powerful image to describe what it means to truly receive Him as the bread of life. To eat His flesh and drink His blood means to take Him into the very core of our being, to let Him become the source of our spiritual life and strength.
This isn't about the ritual of communion alone, though that's a beautiful reminder of this truth. It's about daily feeding on Jesus - making Him our continuous source of satisfaction, strength, and hope. Just as we don't eat one meal and expect it to sustain us for weeks, we can't have one spiritual experience and expect it to carry us through life. We need daily nourishment from the bread of life.
Feasting on Jesus means regularly spending time in His presence, reading His Word, and allowing His truth to transform our thinking. It means bringing Him into every aspect of our lives - our work, our relationships, our decisions, our dreams. It means letting Him satisfy the deep hungers of our souls that no earthly thing can fill.
If you've truly eaten the bread of life, you'll know it. Jesus becomes your source of peace in turmoil, hope in despair, strength in weakness, and joy in sorrow. He doesn't remove all your problems, but He becomes your sustaining presence in the midst of them.
As you continue your spiritual journey, remember that Jesus is not just the bread for a moment, but the bread of life - your continuous source of everything you need. He's the bread that never runs out, never spoils, and always satisfies.
