"When he saw them, he said, 'Go, show yourselves to the priests.' And as they went, they were cleansed." (Luke 17:14)

Reflection

Jesus gave the lepers an unusual instruction: go show yourselves to the priests. This was the protocol for confirming healing, but there was one problem—they weren't healed yet. They could have looked at each other and said, "Nothing's happened to us. We're just the same as we were." But instead, they obeyed. They started walking while still leprous, and as they went, the blessing came.

Persistent prayer requires persistent obedience. It means taking the next step God shows us even when we don't yet see the answer. The lepers had to walk toward the priests in faith, their bodies still covered with sores, still bearing the shame of their condition. Every step required trust. Every step was an act of worship.

How often do we wait to obey until we see the results? How many blessings do we miss because we demand proof before we take the first step? The lepers teach us that the miracle often happens in the going, not before it. Their persistence wasn't just in asking—it was in acting on Jesus' word before they had evidence it would work.

This is the pattern of faith: cry out, listen for His instruction, and obey even when nothing seems to have changed. The transformation may come as you walk in obedience.

What has God instructed you to do that you're waiting to obey until you see more evidence or feel more ready?

Identify one step of obedience you've been postponing. Take that step today, trusting that "as you go," God will meet you.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for the times I've demanded proof before obedience. Help me to trust Your word enough to act on it even when circumstances haven't changed. Give me the courage to start walking while still waiting for the miracle. I choose to obey before I see. Amen.
