"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" — Mark 9:24 (NIV).
Reflection
Many believers wrestle with a painful question: if I truly have faith, why am I still so afraid? If I pray, why does the anxiety return? There can be a subtle, crushing shame in feeling like your fear is proof that your faith isn't real. But this misunderstands what faith actually is.
Faith isn't a switch you flip that instantly removes all fear from your life. It is a journey — a gradual, sometimes halting, sometimes beautiful process of learning to trust God more deeply with each passing season. The older we get, and the more we face, the more we discover that we need God's grace in increasing measure. More experience of life's hardships doesn't automatically produce more fearlessness. But more experience of God's faithfulness, accumulated through prayer and trust, does.
Think of the disciples. They had walked with Jesus, watched miracles, heard His teachings — and still cowered in fear behind locked doors after the crucifixion. Faith grew in them, but it grew over time, through encounters with the risen Christ. The same is true for us. Every time we bring our fear to God in prayer and experience His peace in return, our faith is strengthened for the next battle.
You don't have to have perfect faith today. You just have to bring what you have — even if it's only a mustard seed — and lay it before Him.
Reflection Question
In what area of your life are you expecting instant transformation instead of trusting the gradual process of growing faith?
Action Step
Spend five minutes in quiet prayer today, not asking for anything, simply resting in God's presence and letting Him speak.
Prayer
Lord, I believe — help my unbelief. I don't have perfect faith, but I bring You what I have. Grow my trust in You through each fear I face, and let Your peace be the evidence of Your presence. Amen.
