Scripture of the Day
..."Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it." -- Genesis 28:16
Reflection
Jacob was not in a sanctuary when he encountered God. He was sleeping on the ground, his head resting on a rock, somewhere in the wilderness between one life and the next. He had no altar, no priest, no prepared worship service. Just a rock, a hard night, and a dream of angels ascending and descending between earth and heaven. When he woke, he didn't say, "I need to get to a holy place." He said, "This is the very gateway of heaven. Right here. Right now."
This is the challenge and the invitation of the life of faith: God is not confined to Sundays and sanctuaries. He inhabits the ordinary -- the dishes, the commute, the grocery store, the difficult conversation with a coworker, the late-night worry about a child. The anointed life is not a life that escapes the everyday. It is a life that encounters God within it.
We often compartmentalize faith -- keeping it in its designated hour while the rest of life runs on its own logic. But the God who met Jacob on a patch of bare ground is the same God who is present in your most unremarkable Tuesday.
Question for Personal Reflection
Where in your ordinary, daily life have you been missing the presence of God because you weren't expecting to find him there?
Action Step
Choose one routine task today -- washing dishes, driving to work, making coffee -- and do it as a conscious act of awareness that God is present.
Prayer
Lord, open our eyes to see that wherever we are, we are standing on holy ground. Let every ordinary moment become a gateway to you. Amen.
