“How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!” — Psalm 133:1
Reflection
In Nehemiah 8, Ezra didn't stand alone. He stood on a high wooden platform with men on either side whose very names spoke of God -- Mattithiah, meaning "God's gift"; Hilkiah, meaning "God is my portion." At ground level, thirteen Levites moved among the crowd, helping everyone understand what was being read. And among them was a man named Kelita -- physically disabled -- who had a place at the table.
Every name mattered. Every person showed up and did the work they were given.
This is one of the most overlooked aspects of spiritual renewal: it is never the work of a single leader. It is the work of a body. Some teach. Some serve. Some give. Some move through the crowd explaining what others have proclaimed. Renewal happens when all of them show up.
It is easy to believe that our contribution is too small to matter. But God keeps a record. Every act of faithfulness -- every name written down -- is part of something larger than we can see from where we stand.
The church is not a passive audience for a performer. It is a body in which every member plays a part in the health of the whole.
