"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." — Matthew 6:34
Reflection
Jesus ends His teaching on worry with a profound truth: each day has enough trouble of its own. He's not being pessimistic—He's being realistic.
Life is hard. Every day brings its challenges. But here's the good news: each day also has enough grace. God doesn't give you grace for tomorrow's troubles today. He gives you exactly what you need for today.
Tomorrow's worry is not your burden to carry right now. When you try to carry it anyway, you're carrying weight you weren't designed to bear. This is why anxiety about the future is so crushing—you're trying to carry multiple days' worth of trouble with only one day's worth of grace.
Stop borrowing trouble from tomorrow. Focus on today. Seek God for today. Trust Him with today. And know that when tomorrow comes, He'll meet you there with fresh grace, new mercy, and sufficient strength.
The beginning of prayer is the end of worry because prayer keeps us present with God, receiving His grace one day at a time.
Reflection Question
What future troubles am I trying to carry today? What would change if I trusted God to meet me there when the time comes?
Action Step
Make a "Today Only" list. Write down only the things you actually need to address today, and commit to trusting God with everything else.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for trying to carry tomorrow's troubles with today's grace. Help me to stay present, to trust You one day at a time, and to remember that Your mercies are new every morning. Give me what I need for today, and help me trust You for tomorrow. Amen.
