"As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust." - Psalm 103:13-14
Reflection
After betraying Jesus, Judas isolated himself. For three years, he'd spent nearly every waking moment with the disciples, but in his greatest moment of need, he was alone. In his isolation, his thoughts spiraled into despair, convincing him that there was no recovering from what he'd done. His only option, he believed, was suicide.
Isolation after failure is dangerous. When we fail, we often want to hide, to crawl under a rock, to avoid facing people who know what we've done. But isolated people are vulnerable people. Without community, our thoughts can spiral into darkness. Without others to speak truth to us, we can convince ourselves that recovery is impossible.
Prayer connects us not only to God but to His people. When we pray, "I can't do this alone," God often answers by sending us people who can help. Corporate prayer—praying with others—is especially powerful when we're struggling with failure. It reminds us we're not alone, that others have failed and been restored, that God's community is a place of healing, not just judgment.
