Reflection

In our pursuit of gold or some other earthly treasure, we often abandon the very thing that offers the treasure of heaven: love expressed through relationships, sustained by prayer.

In the last chapter of Genesis, we see Joseph showing compassion as he promised to provide for his brothers. He forgave them and was willing to suffer for them. 

But even his remarkable example pales in comparison to what Jesus Christ has done for us. When Jesus was reviled, He didn't retaliate. When He suffered, He didn't threaten. Instead, He entrusted Himself to His Father through prayer and bore our sins in His body on the cross.

Jesus' entire earthly ministry was marked by prayer. He rose early to pray, withdrew from crowds to pray, prayed all night before major decisions, and even prayed for His enemies. His relationship with the Father through prayer enabled Him to love sacrificially and give His life for our salvation. One of His last acts on earth was to pray in the garden of Gethsemane.. Even though he didn't want to suffer, he willingly accepted God's will. 

Through His death, Jesus gave us the ultimate gifts: the treasure of pardon (forgiveness of sins), the treasure of perspective (God's view of His plans for the world), and the treasure of provision (everything we need for healing and wholeness). Prayer is how we access and maintain these treasures daily.

All the achievements we chase—wealth, fame, power, recognition—will ultimately pass away. But the love we invest in relationships, beginning with our relationship with God through Christ and sustained through prayer, will last for eternity. When everything else fades, love remains. Prayer keeps us connected to this eternal treasure.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for giving Your life to provide me with pardon, perspective, and provision. Help me never forget that relationships are life's greatest treasure. As I pursue goals and achievements, keep my heart focused on loving You and loving others. Let faith express itself through love in every area of my life. Amen.
