Come and Find Rest

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

Reflection

Life is exhausting. We carry heavy loads - the weight of responsibilities, the burden of worry, the pressure of expectations, the pain of loss. Some days we wonder where we'll find the energy to keep going. Single parents juggle countless demands, caregivers tend to aging loved ones, and many face challenges that seem insurmountable. Jesus sees our weariness and extends a personal invitation: "Come to Me."

Coming to Jesus isn't a one-time event; it's a daily practice. We come to Him in the morning, seeking His presence before the day begins. We turn to Him throughout the day when decisions arise, when stress mounts, when unexpected challenges appear. We come to Him when the going gets tough, not as a last resort, but as our first response.

What does it mean to come to Jesus? It means acknowledging that we can't carry our burdens alone. It means admitting our need for help, guidance, and strength beyond ourselves. It means believing that He cares about every detail of our lives, from the monumental decisions to the mundane daily struggles.

When we come to Jesus with our weariness, He doesn't minimize our struggles or offer empty platitudes. He offers Himself - His strength for our weakness, His peace for our anxiety, His rest for our souls. This rest isn't necessarily the absence of activity but the presence of His peace in the midst of our activity. It's the deep soul satisfaction that comes from knowing we're loved, forgiven, and never alone.

Reflection Question

What burdens are you carrying that you need to bring to Jesus today?

Action Step

Take time this morning to literally "come" to Jesus in prayer, laying your specific burdens before Him and asking for His rest.

Prayer

Jesus, I come to You with all my weariness and burdens. I cannot carry these loads alone. Please take them from me and give me Your rest. Strengthen me for what lies ahead and fill me with Your peace. Amen.
