Chosen and Sent

"Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, 'You are my Son.'" — Hebrews 5:5 (ESV)

Reflection

There is a stunning moment described in the mystery of the Trinity — that before the foundation of the world, Jesus raised His hand and said, I'll go. He didn't seek honor for Himself. He didn't campaign for the position. He was sent, and He agreed to be sent, fully knowing what it would cost. He came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom.

That willingness — that holy submission to the Father's mission — is what carried Him through every moment of suffering on the way to the cross. He was not a victim. He was a volunteer.

There is tremendous power in understanding your own life through that lens. Your suffering has not caught God off guard. You have been chosen, placed, and sent into this particular moment in history — with these specific struggles, this specific pain — for purposes greater than you can see.

The same God who appointed Jesus and sustained Him through suffering is the God who has appointed and is sustaining you. You are not an accident. You are not forgotten. You are sent.

Reflection Question

How does knowing that Jesus willingly chose the path of suffering change the way you think about your own?

Action Step

Ask God today to show you the purpose He is working through your current season of difficulty.

Prayer

Father, You sent Your Son willingly into suffering for my sake. Help me trust that You are equally purposeful in what You have allowed in my life. I am Yours — chosen, sent, and held. Let that truth sustain me today. Amen.
